City Council Candidates
councilman Michael Ktistakis
Michael Ktistakis believes in the simple life: family, friends, and a flourishing future for Glen Cove. For the past two years as a member of Glen Cove City Council, Michael has been focused on fiscal and community growth without overdeveloping and crowding. As the beatification liaison for Team Panzenbeck, Michael has turned his expert eye on balancing esthetics with functionality, making Glen Cove’s public spaces true gathering places that offer something for every resident. By supporting the funds necessary for revitalizing our recreation facilities, he fortified many of our parks, beaches, and our prized golf course.
Mike believes that forging a closer and friendlier relationship between Glen Cove’s local businesses and its government is a core value of the Panzenbeck Administration. Attracting new small businesses is a 24/7 job. Michael’s support of our local Chamber of Commerce and the Northshore Hispanic Chamber is not to be matched. He has spent his spare time supporting community charities and religious events, including organizing Hellenic Heritage Day for two consecutive years. He has ensured our youth programs have everything they need to uplift Glen Cove’s children. And because no community is complete without the seniors who have built Glen Cove’s rich history and culture, Michael has spent his tenure supporting necessary funds to upgrade senior centers.
None of Glen Cove’s unique offerings could be kept safe without our first responders. Michael has prioritized our fire department, EMS, and our esteemed police force, along with the backbone of our community—the DPW. Michael has spent hours talking to people, listening to them, and sharing in their concerns; soaking in their stories of their own pride and joy, as well as stories of their challenges and setbacks—intent on helping our community members solve problems and set goals.
Mike does not walk alone through life. He is the proud husband to his entrepreneur wife Bessie, and ever-present father to his son and daughter. “Sending my kids to the same schools as I went to has been one of the best decisions of my life. I want to make sure the future is carved out for my son and daughter so they will never look elsewhere for opportunities, and I want the same for all future generations.”
To do so, Michael will spend the next two years regulating density while enticing young families to plant their own roots in Glen Cove, as Michael’s parents had more than fifty years ago. He wants to support rehabilitating our fragile water infrastructure and focus on attracting new businesses that will help our economy thrive. Finally, by preserving our community’s past, future generations will be inspired by the tradition, safety, and neighborhoods that make such a beloved city everyone’s hometown.
