Village Square "Piazza"

 Did you know?

That under the City Charter, the City Attorney is supposed to handle all legal matters, for which he and his firm are compensated over $100,000 per year.

Yet the City hires outside law firms to represent us on many of these cases.

The cost for outside legal work on behalf of the City is billed at an additional $200,000 per year.

Planning Board: Glen Cove Village Square "Piazza"

August 10, 2011 - With a 4 to 3 vote, the Planning Board approves Michael Puntillo's application to build Four 4- and 5-story buildings at the Village Square location, housing stores on the ground floor and 142 rental apartment units. This resulted despite strong community opposition, serious reservations about the project by members of the Planning Board, and the fact that several existing buildings will sit in the middle of the "Piazza" after construction, unless Mr. Puntillo can purchase those properties. So far, negotiations have been unsuccessful. But "Eminent Domain" by the City of Glen Cove has been mentioned by both the Mayor, and a member of the Planning Board.

June 22, 2011 - The public has their say at the Public Hearing on the proposed Piazza project. The Planning Board deferred their decision in order to discuss the comments received from residents.

Planning Board Public Hearing on the proposed Village Square "Piazza" - June 2011

June 16, 2011 - At the first public hearing, many were only hearing about the Piazza project for the first time. However, the discussion was more about how long Planning Board members had been serving beyond their appointed terms, with questions about their objectiviity, than it was about the project itself.
